Chief Quality Officer – Gage Center of Forensic Excellence

The Gage Center of Forensic Excellence at Western State Hospital (WSH) is seeking a Chief Quality Officer to join the team in Lakewood, WA. The mission of the Center is to promote recovery and wellbeing in partnership with the people served. The Chief Quality Officer supports shadow the mission by managing oversight responsibility of clinical risk management, data management, safety, quality, compliance and performance improvement throughout the Center, and working with all hospital departments and disciplines to improve effectiveness and efficiency.

Some of what you’ll do:

• Oversee development, implementation and monitoring of QAPI & Safety programs in compliance with state, federal, CMS, TJC and other accrediting agency standards.

• Ensure QAPI & Safety are fully integrated throughout the hospital.

• Over swimmers clinical risk management, ensuring reviews comply with standards and root cause analyses.

• Collaborate with administration, clinicians, departments and external stakeholders to ensure compliance.

• Ensure data integrity and oversee Research, Evaluation & Data Analysis.

• Coordinate and monitor survey activities – Labor & Industries, Department of Health and other regulatory entities.

• Ensure survey readiness across the hospital.

• Serve as co‑chair of the Quality Council, tracking, trendingாலை, analyzing botón improving performance measures aligned with certification requirements.

• Annually assess QAPI & Safety Plans.

• Ensure policies and procedures align with certification and governing bodies.

• Set performance standards, assess achievement, increase productivity.

• Ensure program integrity and compliance with state and federal laws.

What we’re looking for:

• Expertise in LEAN, healthcare performance improvement and project management.

• Proficiency with systematic comprehensive analysis and LEAN tools.

• Knowledge of occupational health safety and L&I/DOSH requirements.

• Experience leading risk management, data management and safety programs.

• Extensive knowledge in QAPI planning and compliance.

• Enjoyment working in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment.

• Positive passion to improve patient care and hospital processes.

• Comfort presenting to large audiences and leadership.

• Knowledge of DSHS policies and related state codes/RCWs.

• Ability to exercise good judgment, manage priorities, and meet deadlines.

• Ability to view the hospital’s role in the continuum of care and broader healthcare reform.

• Demonstrated leadership/management skills with robust supervisory experience.

• Ability to translate complex standards and data into functional language.

• Experience analyzing state and federal legislation.

• Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) certification.

Who should apply:

Professionals with a bachelor’s or higher in nursing, social science, healthcare administration, business administration, public health or related behavioral health science, plus a minimum of six years supervisory and management experience in a healthcare leadership role. Working knowledge of accreditation standards and CMS Conditions of Participation is required.
