Job Summary

Approve your customer‑service skills and eye‑for‑detail to make a meaningful impact in the City of Lakewood’s Human Resources team. As a Human Resources Technician, you will support all HR functions while serving as the subject‑matter expert for accurate input and maintenance of the HRIS system.

Basic Function

Under the direction of the Human Resources Manager, provide responsible administrative, professional, and technical work of a confidential nature involving a broad range of human resources functions and employee labor relations activities.

Essential Duties Administrative Support
  • Budget: Assist with the division budget process, including processing invoices, monitoring expenditures, maintaining records, and producing reports.
  • Employee Programs: Provide administrative support for a variety of employee programs—collect data, conduct research, prepare reports, files, correspondence, meeting agenda packets, and other documents.
  • Employment Posters: Ensure mandatory employment posters are current and compliant.
  • Events: Assist with planning and implementing city‑wide events such as quarterly employee recognition, annual volunteer recognition, United Way Campaign, and Well City Award events.
  • Mail and Office Supplies: Process and distribute division mail daily; monitor supplies status and order replacement supplies as needed.
  • Position Control: Assist with maintaining accurate and ongoing position control tracking; update tracking systems and records as appropriate.
  • Public Records Requests: Coordinate and track division responses to public records requests; provide regular status updates to the HR team.
  • Records Management: Establish and maintain HR filing systems; archive, retain, and destroy documents per laws, regulations, and city policies.
  • Verification of Employment: Review communication avenues for verification requests; coordinate response with Payroll and ensure timely and accurate processing.

Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.

Benefits and Customer Service
  • Customer Service: Respond to employee inquiries regarding city benefits; provide accurate information and necessary documents.
  • Open Enrollment: Assist with annual open enrollment, review enrollment forms, and enter updates into HRIS.
  • Forms: Ensure current forms are accessible to employees in hard and electronic copies; update HRIS and third‑party systems as appropriate.
  • Reporting: Generate regular and ad hoc reports (monthly organization chart updates, staffing reports, employee leave reports, position control reporting).
  • Safety: Champion a culture of workplace safety through everyday actions and leadership.
  • Salary and Benefit Surveys: Conduct annual surveys in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Staffing: Participate on interview panels; coordinate onboarding orientations, exit orientations, and track orientation checklists.
  • Systems Administration: Primary contact for building access/employee , HRIS data entry, HR webpage administration, and third‑party system updates.
  • Wellness Program Coordination: Serve as the City’s Wellness Coordinator—administer program, coordinate monthly committee meetings and events, track participation and budget, and prepare reports.
