Job OverviewPierce Transit is an independent municipal organization dedicated to improving people's quality of life by providing safe, reliable, innovative, and useful transportation services that are locally based and regionally connected. This senior planning role oversees long‑range planning initiatives, guides project development and grant efforts, and manages planning functions for existing capital facilities.
Responsibilities- Supervises the work of assigned personnel, including assigning and reviewing work, providing guidance, and conducting performance evaluations.
- Leads and directs agency’s planning efforts for service delivery and capital; establishes and monitors implementation of department goals, objectives, and annual work programs.
- Oversees project development efforts for capital and service planning; develops recommendations on capital and grant projects for the agency; guides requests for proposals or qualifications for new projects and participates in project selections.
- Oversees the service scheduling group.
- Develops preliminary project cost estimates and budgets; manages assigned budget and monitors expenditures.
- Prepares, reviews, interprets, and analyzes a variety of information, data and reports; provides advice, counsel, and makes recommendations in alignment with the strategic plan.
- Attends, chairs, and conducts a variety of meetings within the Agency and in the community; serves on committees and task forces in cooperation and coordination with other key staff; represents the Agency at local and regional meetings; makes oral presentations at meetings, conferences, and other events.
- Demonstrates reliable and consistent attendance.
- Performs related work as required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, Administration, or a related field.
- Seven (7) years of increasingly responsible planning experience in a transit agency or in a transportation-related industry, including supervisory experience.
- Public sector experience desired.
- Master’s degree desired.
The position involves sedentary work, requiring occasional exertion of up to 10 lbs. of force, a negligible amount of force frequently, or constant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving objects. It involves sitting most of the time, with common physical demands involving desk or office-related work.
