DSHS FTAA Maintenance Mechanic 2

We have a great opportunity for you to join our team as a journey-level tradesperson in the maintenance, repair, alteration, and operation within our Life Safety Shop at Western State Hospital campus.

As a member of the Finance, Technology and Analytics (FTAA) team within our Maintenance and Operations Division, you will assist the maintenance shop performing HVAC, electrical, plumbing, painting, carpentry, grounds maintenance and repairs.

Pierce County employees are eligible to receive an Orca Card for transportation needs.

Some of what you'll do:
  • Preventative maintenance and repairs on all types of mechanical equipment such as laundry and kitchen equipment; hospital, laboratory, and air conditioning equipment
  • Maintenance, operation, and repair of electrical, mechanical, and structural systems of buildings and utility distribution
  • Monitor safety, fire protection, and environmental control equipment to ensure the building systems and equipment are operating in a satisfactory condition
  • Respond to service requests and secure necessary assistance
  • Take preventative and emergency action to control malfunctions
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, and other shop equipment
  • Work from plans, sketches, or drawings
  • Estimate materials for completion of the job
What we are looking for:
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions described in this announcement successfully
  • Must be able to communicate with professional conduct and comprehend, through oral and written forms of communication, with management, peers, clients, and the public
  • Dress appropriately for the work to be performed including wearing Personal Protective Equipment when necessary.
  • Knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment of mechanical trades, safety precautions, record keeping, and basic computer skills
  • Knowledge of fire alarm and/or fire suppression
Who should apply?
  • Those with a high school diploma/GED
  • A valid driver's license
  • At least 4 years of experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction, or repair work; or completion of a recognized apprenticeship in a skilled mechanical trade
