The Labor & Delivery RN provides direct patient care to women during labor, delivery, postpartum, and newborn care. The role ensures comprehensive maternal and infant care while adhering to OB department policies and best practices.
Key Responsibilities- Perform maternal and fetal assessments
- Monitor labor progress and assist with inductions and C-sections
- Provide care during labor, delivery, postpartum, and newborn care
- Administer IV medications and maintain accurate documentation
- Prepare delivery rooms and assist with patient transfers
- Educate patients and families
- Follow infection control and sterile technique protocols
- Provide emotional support to patients and families
- Strong knowledge of labor, delivery, postpartum, and newborn care
- Ability to work effectively in high-stress situations
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficient in mother–infant clinical care and OB equipment
- Long periods of standing, walking, and lifting
- Exposure to blood, body fluids, and infectious diseases
- May rotate shifts and areas based on staffing and census needs
