Job Summary:

The Mental Health Counselor provides accessible, student-centered mental health services to students enrolled at Lamar Community College. This position is intentionally structured around a sustainable counseling model, including a manageable active caseload of approximately 14 students or fewer, allowing the counselor to provide meaningful, individualized support while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and a healthy, sustainable workload.

The Mental Health Counselor provides individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, consultation, outreach, training, and preventative mental health programming. Rather than operating within a high-volume clinical model, this position balances direct counseling services with campus engagement, education, early intervention, and collaboration. The goal is to provide high-quality mental health support without creating an environment in which the counselor is expected to continuously absorb an unsustainable clinical caseload.

The counselor works collaboratively with campus offices to develop programs and systems that support the well-being, persistence, and success of LCC students, including students who may experience barriers to accessing mental health resources. Services will emphasize student resilience, development of healthy coping strategies, connection to resources, and the strengths and capacities students bring to their college experience.

As an employee of, and the Colorado Community College System, this position is required to uphold and enforce the policies of LCC and CCCS, and all local, state and federal laws. This position will comply with all student privacy laws (FERPA); and is a mandatory reporter of any suspected illegal activity.
