JOB SUMMARY

Qualifications include high school diploma or G.E.D., experience in an early childhood program or similar setting, and a demonstrated ability to relate sensitively to children and families. Employee must assist the lead teacher in all activities as directed, be in charge of the classroom when the teacher is absent, assist with record-keeping, and promote a safe, developmentally appropriate environment in keeping with all Head Start performance standards and daycare licensing requirements.

TASKS

AND DUTIES (Essential Functions):

Assist teachers in all activities as directed.

Assist with 30 minute breaks in classrooms.

Obtain and/or maintain Child Development Associates Credential (CDA) by meeting all of the required training hours and other set requirements.

Pick up and distribute supplies to the center as needed.

Assist in providing an appropriate environment for the children that meets minimum standards and Head Start performance standards and daycare licensing requirements.

Assist in providing appropriate materials and routines that will encourage learning and cognitive development.

Assist in providing activities that will promote good health and nutrition practices.

Supervise the classroom when the teacher is absent or otherwise deemed necessary.

Aid the children in developing a positive self-image.

Aid the children in developing appropriate social skills.

Maintain an open, friendly and informative relationship with each family.

Aid in maintaining progress records for the children.

Attend parent meetings as deemed necessary by supervisor.

Work cooperatively with other staff members in planning policies and activities.

Attend two home visits with teacher as needed.

Contribute to and aid in developing and implementing the School Readiness Goals for the Head Start program.

Encourage the parents to participate in all aspects of the Head Start Program.

Attend workshops/conferences and trainings as related to job duties.

Participate in program self-assessment process.

Maintain confidentiality of all phases within program.

Attend First Aid and CPR Certification Training and keep certification current.

TASKS AND DUTIES (Marginal Functions):

Photocopy information as needed.

Assist in cleaning and maintaining facility.

Perform other duties as deemed necessary.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (Mandatory for hiring):

High school graduate or G.E.D.

Experience in an early childhood program or similar setting.

Demonstrate ability to relate sensitively to children and families.

Ability to maintain records.

Be able to work well as a team player.
