Library Assistant | Lancashire Library Services | Chorley | Part Time

We are looking for an enthusiastic, customer‑focused and digitally confident individual to join our library teams. Lancashire Libraries are a vital service that provide welcoming, inclusive spaces where people of all ages can connect, learn and feel safe.

Job Description

Salary £25,185 - £25,989 Per Annum | Permanent | Part Time | Various Hours | Chorley District

As a Library Assistant, you will support the delivery of a high‑quality library and information service. This includes:

  • Assisting customers with accessing digital resources and information.
  • Supporting the planning and delivery of events, such as author events and class visits.
  • Engaging with customers to promote reading for pleasure.

You will be appointed to a library base(s), but there will be an expectation that you will work at other libraries as required. Hours of work are listed against the available posts and are a set working pattern over two weeks; see attachment for rotas.

  • Eccleston Library – 16 hours per week
  • Coppull Library – 21 hours per week
What We’re Looking For

Our ideal candidate will be welcoming and friendly, have a love for reading and be passionate about sharing this. You should have excellent communication and digital skills, be able to work with a range of stakeholders and deliver a customer‑focused service.

Interview Process

The interview process will be in two parts:

  • Part 1 – Assessment Day – All shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an assessment day lasting about 1 hour, which will include:
    • A meeting with a manager
    • Tour of the library and explanation of duties
    • Work‑related short assessments
  • Part 2 – Final Interview – All applicants attending the assessment day will be invited for an interview.

Assessment date: 9 am to 4 pm, 31 January – Chorley Library
Interview date: 4 th February – Chorley Library
