The RoleMain
Duties and Responsibilities:
- To contribute fully to the mission and values statement of the College ensuring its effective implementation in all aspects of College life.
- To plan, prepare and deliver high quality lessons in order to achieve excellent student outcomes.
- To set and mark work in accordance with College and department Assessment policy, to record work carried out and assessment of same.
- To develop rapport with individuals and whole groups in order to facilitate the learning process.
- To liaise with both the Head of Departments in contributing to the administration necessary to support the teaching and learning within the subject area.
- To teach in other departments where required
- To attend and contribute to team, full staff and other relevant meetings.
- To communicate and consult with parents, carers, students as appropriate, including attendance at Consultation and Open Evenings.
The staff in the Psychology department are highly motivated and supportive of one another, working very closely as a team. Resources are shared and delivery of content and assessments is standardized to ensure that all students receive the same high quality resources and experience. An ethos of continuous improvement is fostered within the department. Staff have high expectations of students and work hard to support them to achieve their potential.
The Psychology department offers the following courses:
- OCR A level Psychology yr12 (367 students), yr13 (310 students)
- Pearson BTEC Applied Psychology Extended Certificate yr12 (163 students), yr13 (118 students)
The department comprises 12 staff members.

The Psychology department is looking for an excellent classroom teacher, with a high level of communication and interpersonal skills, with a relevant degree and teaching qualification (if no teaching qualification is held must be willing to work towards this). The successful candidate should be able to display a high level of skill in the management of learning with a commitment to a student-centred approach to the learning process.
You should have an awareness and understanding of current developments in the subject area, the ability to manage student progress and achievement, and have a high level of organisational and administrative skills. You should have the ability to set and achieve high standards for yourself, colleagues, and students.
You should display the values, attitudes, and behaviours consistent with the Catholic Ethos of the College and have a commitment to equality/diversity and the safeguarding of young people and vulnerable adults.
Terms and ConditionsHours:
Between full time and 0.5 fte We will always try to accommodate the preference of the best candidate(s).
Salary:Paid on the Sixth Form College s Salary Structure pro to £33,465 to £51,714 per annum (dependent upon experience). For an outstanding candidate the college will consider a golden hello recruitment payment.

Teaching at Cardinal Newman CollegeWe always endeavour to timetable to our staff members strengths.
- Full time staff are responsible for 4 classes and Curriculum Plus (one to one support sessions for students, small group work, revision sessions etc).
- The structure of the timetable for 26/27 allows for homeworking on most Wednesdays between September and March. From March onwards Wednesdays are utilised for on-site revision sessions/exam preparations.
- Where possible, we can timetable flexibly for staff who may need to be on-site later or leave site earlier to accommodate the school run etc., adjusting the FTE appropriately.
