About the Role
A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Peckham, Southwark is seeking a dedicated and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team. This is a full-time position working Monday to Wednesday, supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) across the school.
The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting children with additional needs to access learning, develop socially and emotionally, and achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEN
- Support children with ASD, ADHD, SEMH, and other additional needs
- Implement individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour support strategies
- Use positive handling techniques in line with school policy (physical intervention training essential)
- Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals
- Foster a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Proven experience working with children with special educational needs in a primary school setting
- Positive Handling/Behaviour Management training (e.g., Team Teach or equivalent)
- Strong behaviour management skills
- Patience, resilience, and a calm, consistent approach
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
