Temporary Teacher of Health, Social Care and Early Years
We welcome applications from experienced and Early Career Teachers; as well as those with a relevant degree looking to embark on a career in teaching, to commence August 2026.
The post is fixed term for one year to cover a period maternity leave.
Main
Duties and Responsibilities:
- To contribute fully to the mission and values statement of the College ensuring its effective implementation in all aspects of.
- To plan, prepare and deliver high quality lessons in order to achieve excellent student outcomes.
- To set and mark work in accordance with College and department Assessment policy, to record work carried out and assessment of same.
- To provide pastoral care and support for students, encourage high standards of behaviour, attendance, and engagement, and ensure safeguarding concerns are identified and referred according to College procedures.
- To develop rapport with individuals and whole groups in order to facilitate the learning process.
- To liaise with the Head of Department in contributing to the administration necessary to support teaching and learning.
- To attend and contribute to team, full staff and other relevant meetings.
- To teach in other departments where required.
- To communicate and consult with parents, carers, students as appropriate, including attendance at Consultation and Open Evenings.
The successful candidate will become part of a dynamic, supportive and aspirational vocational department.
The Health and Social Care department offers the following courses:
- BTEC (Edexcel) Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care: 149 students
- BTEC (Edexcel) Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care: 94 students
- AAQ (OCR) Level 3 Health and Social Care: 41 students
- T-Level (NCFE) Education and Early Years: 35 students
- Level 2 (NCFE) Certificate in Health and Social Care: 34 students
The department comprises 12 staff members.
The Successful CandidateCardinal Newman College is a wonderful place to work, and this is an exciting opportunity for a teacher, with the ability to enthuse and innovate, to join our friendly and well established Health, Social Care and Early Years department.
The Health, Social Care and Early Years department is looking for an excellent classroom teacher, with a high level of communication and interpersonal skills, with a relevant degree and teaching qualification (if no teaching qualification is held must be willing to work towards this). The successful candidate should be able to display a high level of skill in the management of learning with a commitment to a student‑centred approach to the learning process.
You should have an awareness and understanding of current developments in the subject area, the ability to manage student progress and achievement, and have a high level of organisational and administrative skills. You should have the ability to set and achieve high standards for yourself, colleagues, and students.
You should display the values, attitudes, and behaviours consistent with the Catholic Ethos of the College and have a commitment to equality/diversity and the safeguarding of young people and vulnerable adults.
Terms and ConditionsHours: Between full time and 0.5 fte We will always try to accommodate the preference of the best candidate(s).
Salary: Paid on the Sixth Form College s Salary Structure pro to £33,465 to £51,714 per annum (dependent upon experience).

Teaching at Cardinal Newman CollegeWe always endeavour to timetable to our staff members strengths.
- Full time staff are responsible for 4 classes and Curriculum Plus (one to one support sessions for students, small group work, revision sessions etc).
- The structure of the timetable for 26/27 allows for homeworking on most Wednesdays between September and March. From March onwards Wednesdays are utilised for on‑site revision sessions/exam preparations.
