SEN Teaching Assistant – Chorley

About the Role

We are currently recruiting for a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils across primary and secondary schools in the Chorley area. This role involves working with children who have a range of special educational needs, including ASD, ADHD, and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEN
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering tailored learning activities
  • Support pupils with social, emotional, and behavioural needs
  • Help create a positive, safe and engaging learning environment
  • Adapt learning materials to meet individual needs
  • Monitor and report on student progress and wellbeing
  • Encourage independence, confidence, and participation
Requirements
  • Previous experience working with children or young people (school-based experience desirable)
  • Understanding of SEN, including ASD, ADHD or SEMH needs
  • A patient, nurturing and resilient attitude
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviour in a calm and consistent manner
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
