Position: Higher Level Teaching Assistant

Chorley, Lancashire

Full-time | Term-time only

Competitive salary (dependent on experience & qualifications)

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a supportive and dynamic team within a specialist SEN/SEMH school in Chorley
. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference to pupils with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs
, helping them achieve both academically and personally.

  • Support the delivery of engaging and differentiated lessons across the curriculum
  • Lead small group interventions and, where appropriate, whole‑class teaching
  • Work closely with the class teacher to plan, prepare and assess learning activities
  • Provide tailored support to pupils with SEMH, additional needs, and challenging behaviours
  • Foster a positive, safe and inclusive learning environment
  • Support behaviour management strategies and individual support plans
  • Liaise with teaching staff, SENCO, and external professionals where required

We are looking for someone who:

  • Holds a recognised HLTA qualification (or equivalent experience)
  • Has experience working within SEN and/or SEMH settings
  • Has strong behaviour management skills and a calm, resilient approach
  • Is confident leading learning activities independently
  • Is passionate about supporting vulnerable learners and promoting wellbeing
  • Has excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • A supportive and welcoming school environment
