Position: Pastoral Support Assistant (SEN/SEMH)

Position Overview

We are recruiting dedicated and resilient Pastoral Support Assistants to work across a range of SEN and SEMH schools in Chorley and Skelmersdale, starting in September 2026.

Location:

Chorley & Skelmersdale.

Salary:
Dependent on experience.

Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 and small group pastoral support to students with SEN/SEMH needs
  • Support students in managing behaviour using positive and consistent strategies
  • Build strong, trusting relationships to promote emotional wellbeing
  • Assist in implementing individual behaviour and support plans
  • Work closely with teaching staff, SENCOs, and external professionals
  • Support pupils during lessons, transitions, and unstructured times
  • Monitor, record, and report on student progress and wellbeing
  • Promote a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment
Qualifications and Experience
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN and/or SEMH needs
  • Patient, calm, and resilient in challenging situations
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Confident managing behaviour in a positive and proactive way
  • Passionate about supporting vulnerable young people
  • Effective team player
  • Previous experience in schools, PRUs, care, or youth work
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures
  • Training such as Team Teach, MAPA, or similar is advantageous
  • Understanding of trauma-informed practice
  • Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (preferred but not essential)
