Our library vision, The Library Towards 2025, sets out our ambitions to be a library that is connected, that goes beyond providing just a service and building, and works in partnership with all Lancaster University communities. Central to this vision is the work of the Library Teaching and Engagement team, who are the interface between the faculties, departments and the library, and who engage with the wider community, developing partnerships with local schools, colleges and community groups.
An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and proactive individual to join the Library Teaching and Engagement team within Academic Services as the Library Schools Engagement Officer. The post is integral to the delivery of the Library Schools Engagement Programme as part of a Widening Participation funded project, working with year 12 and 13 students in targeted schools and colleges. Through the project students will experience what it is like to study at university and the programme will contribute to raising attainment.
The post holder will contribute to other Schools Outreach projects and activities at Lancaster University.
- Deliver high quality library activities for schools and college students and provide opportunities for visits to Lancaster University and the library.
- Be the key point of contact between the school or college and the library, collaborating with teachers and other education professionals to develop these activities and customise the library offer for targeted schools.
- Manage a team of Library Schools Engagement Ambassadors, coordinating their work and the work of colleagues across the Library Schools Engagement Team.
- Experience delivering engaging interactive sessions with young people (both in-person and online).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with others.
- Family‑friendly, flexible working arrangements with forums and inclusive facilities.
- Consideration for job share applications.
- Potential for remote working, proportion to be determined in discussion with line manager and university guidelines.
- Opportunity to offer the post as a secondment for current Lancaster University employees (line manager approval required).
