SEMH Teaching Assistant

Location: Pupil Referral Unit (PRU), Accrington
Hours: Full-time
Contract: Agency

We are currently recruiting a dedicated and enthusiastic SEMH Teaching Assistant with a sports background to work on a full‑time agency basis in a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Accrington.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are passionate about supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. A background in sports, coaching, mentoring, or youth work is highly desirable, as the role involves using positive relationships, resilience, and teamwork to engage and motivate students.

The Role
  • Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Help manage behaviour using positive behaviour support strategies.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students.
  • Encourage participation, confidence, and personal development through engaging activities.
  • Work closely with teachers and other professionals to support pupils' learning and wellbeing.
Requirements
  • Experience working with children or young people, ideally within SEMH, SEND, youth work, or sports coaching.
  • A positive, patient, and resilient approach.
  • Strong communication and behaviour management skills.
  • A genuine passion for helping young people achieve their potential.
  • An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
