Job Overview
We are seeking a passionate and dynamic Forest School Leader to work within a primary school in Penwortham, Preston starting in September 2026 to inspire children through outdoor learning experiences that foster independence, confidence, and a love for nature. In this role, you will lead engaging forest school sessions, creating a safe, nurturing environment where children can explore, learn, and develop essential life skills.
Your leadership will encourage curiosity and resilience while promoting environmental awareness and early childhood development. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on young learners’ lives through outdoor education.
Duties
* Plan and deliver engaging outdoor learning activities tailored to children’s developmental needs
* Supervise children during forest school sessions, ensuring safety and well-being at all times
* Foster a positive, inclusive environment that encourages curiosity, teamwork, and independence
* Maintain clear communication with parents, colleagues, and external partners regarding children’s progress and needs
* Conduct risk assessments and implement safety protocols for all outdoor activities
* Manage the day-to-day operations of forest school sessions, including setting up equipment and resources
* Support children’s emotional development by promoting confidence-building activities and environmental stewardship
Skills
* Proven management and leadership skills to guide groups of children effectively
* Experience working with children in primary school environments
* Forest School Accreditation
* Strong communication skills in English to clearly convey instructions and feedback
* Ability to foster a safe, supportive environment that promotes learning through play outdoors
* Excellent organizational skills for planning activities and managing daily routines
* Valid driving license to facilitate transportation or outdoor excursions when necessary
