Salary – £40,000 to £45,000 DOE

Location – Hybrid based in Lancashire

Join a specialist in the design and manufacture of high-performance elastomeric seals and gaskets. Serving critical industries such as aerospace and semiconductors, they provide advanced material science solutions to ensure reliability in the world’s most demanding and extreme environments.

We are seeking a talented Tooling Design Engineer to lead the creation of precision mould tools. While the primary focus is on high-level Solid Works design and technical data management using ERP (JD Edwards) and PDM (Adept), experience in CAM programming is highly advantageous to support the CNC machine shop.

Responsibilities, but are not limited to
  • Create complex 3D tool and component designs, specifically focusing on cavity blocks, cores, inserts, plates, guide systems, and ejector arrangements
  • Develop comprehensive 2D manufacturing drawings, including precise tolerances, GD&T, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and assembly documentation
  • Perform critical design checks, including parting line evaluation, shrinkage considerations, and manufacturability assessments
  • Optimise tools for performance, durability, and ease of maintenance while ensuring technical compliance
  • Manage part numbers, Bills of Materials, and routing information within the JD Edwards ERP system
  • Ensure all designs and revisions are controlled and traceable via the Adept PDM system
  • Generate job cards and production orders to ensure alignment between design and manufacturing data
  • Provide technical support to machinists and toolmakers to bridge the gap between design and physical production
  • Lead root-cause analysis for tooling failures or dimensional issues
  • Collaborate with quality teams to review CMM reports and facilitate dimensional sign-off
  • Update designs based on feedback from mould trials and tool testing
  • Support the generation and optimisation of CNC tool paths for turning and milling operations
  • Evaluate new CAM strategies, cutting tools, and machining technologies
Experiences required
  • Degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering, HND equivalent, or time‑served experience
  • Proven experience in precision tool design, specifically compression or injection mould tools
  • Proficiency in Solid Works (or similar CAD packages like Inventor or Creo)
  • Deep understanding of GD&T and ability to interpret complex engineering drawings
  • Familiarity with ERP (JD Edwards) and PDM (Adept) workflows is highly desirable
  • Experience with Solid

    CAM or similar offline programming software is advantageous
