Blackpool Transport is looking for a skilled, reliable and proactive Multi‑Skilled Technician to join our Tramway Engineering team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong electrical, mechanical or general engineering maintenance experience who wants to work in a unique operational environment, supporting one of the most recognisable tramway networks in the country.
As a Multi‑Skilled Technician, you will play a key role in keeping our tramway assets safe, reliable and ready for service. You will carry out planned and reactive maintenance, fault diagnosis, inspections and repairs across trams, plant, depot equipment and associated systems.
About the role:
You will work as part of a multi‑disciplinary engineering team, helping to minimise asset downtime and support the safe and efficient delivery of tramway operations. The role will involve diagnosing faults, completing repairs, maintaining accurate records, working safely and supporting wider engineering activities where required.
The work is varied and hands‑on, covering a range of engineering disciplines including but not limited to electrical, electronic, and mechanical maintenance, fabrication, bodywork, flooring, interior repairs, and the inspection and testing of rolling stock, depot equipment, and other associated systems.
Key Responsibilities- Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on trams, plant, depot equipment and associated systems.
- Diagnose faults using appropriate methods, test equipment, software and technical information. Complete repairs safely, efficiently and to a high professional standard.
- Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement by proactively identifying opportunities for development and supporting their implementation across all aspects of the role and the wider engineering function.
- Support inspections, testing, commissioning, breakdown recovery and shunting activities where trained and authorised.
- Produce accurate maintenance, inspection, defect and repair records.
- Work in line with health and safety legislation, company policies, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
- Report defects, hazards, incidents, near misses and safety concerns promptly.
- Work collaboratively with supervisors, managers, colleagues and other departments.
- Share knowledge with colleagues and apprentices to support development and business continuity.
- Undertake training to develop wider skills and competencies required by the business.
About you:
We are looking for someone who is practical, safety‑focused and committed to high standards of workmanship.
You should have:
- A recognised electrical, mechanical or engineering maintenance qualification, or proven relevant maintenance experience.
- A current UK driving licence.
- Practical maintenance experience in an engineering, transport, plant, vehicle, depot, workshop or similar technical environment.
- The ability to diagnose and resolve faults safely and methodically.
- The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics or technical instructions.
- A good understanding of health and safety requirements and safe working practices.
- Good written, verbal and ICT skills.
- The ability to work as part of a team and on your own initiative.
- Experience with tramway, rail, rolling stock, fleet, plant or heavy vehicle equipment would be advantageous, but full role‑specific training will be provided where required.
