As a Probation Services Officer you will support people on probation before and after sentence, helping them to turn their lives around while protecting the public. The role offers training, progression and the chance to build a rewarding career within the Probation Service.
Responsibilities- Assessment of offenders and implementation of court sentences.
- Case management support for a full range of probationers.
- Risk assessment and management.
- Preparation of accurate reports within tight deadlines.
- Provision of practical support such as housing, employment advice and listening to offenders.
- Collaboration with courts and other agencies across the justice system.
- No degree required; strong interest in helping people with social or personal difficulties.
- Empathetic, patient, resilient, organised and willing to manage a caseload.
- Excellent written communication skills; ability to produce clear and accurate reports.
- Good verbal communication skills for interactions with courts and agencies.
- Right to work in the United Kingdom.
- From 22 July 2025, eligibility for a Skilled Worker visa is restricted; candidates must have held such a visa before that date to be considered.
- All applicants will undergo security and identity checks.
- UK nationals, nationals of the Republic of Ireland, Commonwealth nationals with the right to work in the UK.
- EU, Swiss, Norwegian, Icelandic or Liechtenstein nationals and their settled or pre‑settled family members.
- Individuals with limited or indefinite leave to remain eligible under the EU Settlement Scheme.
- Turkish nationals and specific family members with the right to work in the Civil Service.
- Starting salary £28,064 per year (pro‑rata for part‑time).
- Annual leave: 25 days on appointment, increasing to 30 days after five years; pro‑rata for part‑time posts.
- Access to the Local Government Pension Scheme via the Greater Manchester Pension Fund.

- Hybrid working arrangements where business needs allow, subject to suitability.
