Cystic Fibrosis Clinical Lead Physiotherapist

Band 7 Physiotherapist to play a key role in the provision of high-quality specialist Cystic Fibrosis Physiotherapy within Blackpool Adult Cystic Fibrosis Service (BACFS).

To work within and adhere to The Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC) Physiotherapy codes of conduct and Blackpool Teaching Hospitals relevant policies and guidelines.

To provide specialist physiotherapy expertise and knowledge in the management of Cystic Fibrosis across inpatient, outpatient and domiciliary services.

To work collaboratively with BACFS multidisciplinary team to further develop the service.

To be a source of Cystic Fibrosis clinical expertise to staff assisting with education of other health care professionals and Therapy students.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as a specialised physiotherapy practitioner within a multi-disciplinary Cystic Fibrosis Service with complex patients.

To lead the planning, co-ordination, delivery and evaluation of the Physiotherapy service alongside BACFS Director and Manager.

To work collaboratively with the MDT to ensure quality of care is delivered and influence service development.

To provide clinical education to other health professionals and students.

To undertake research, audit and CPD to ensure that the service being delivered is to the highest possible standard.

To be actively involved in the recruitment and selection of Physiotherapy staff.

To provide clinical supervision and leadership to students and future recruits within BACFS Physiotherapy.

Clinical

To work as an autonomous clinical practitioner ensuring an excellent standard of care for the patients in the service that respects their individual privacy and dignity.

Job responsibilities

Clinical

To undertake the comprehensive assessment of patients with a highly complex presentation using investigative, judgement and analytical skills.

To be able to accurately diagnose a range of different physiotherapy presentations within the speciality of Cystic Fibrosis.

To formulate and implement individualised treatment plans using clinical reasoning and referral pathways as necessary.

To conduct risk assessment as appropriate during clinical assessments and treatments.

To provide advice and education to relatives, carers and other professionals to promote understanding of condition-related information to ensure valid informed consent is gained.

To maintain confidentiality and abide by the Data Protection Act.

Personal

To possess advanced communication skills to work collaboratively with medical, nursing, therapy, pharmacy and psychosocial colleagues.

To be able to describe complex pathologies, investigations, diagnoses and treatment options that may be sensitive or contentious to patients/carers in an empathetic and reassuring manner; appropriate to their needs and level of understanding in a language understandable to them.
