Position: Band 6 to 7 Progressional Pharmacist

As a Pharmacist (Band
6) you will start in a progression pathway to Band 7, completing competency based training over approximately 12 months (longer for part time). Successful completion is sign‑off by the Principal Pharmacist.

The Trust launched a Trust‑wide electronic patient records and e‑prescribing system in June 2023. We support a team of pharmacists who pursue Non‑Medical Prescriber qualifications and post‑graduate clinical certificates/diplomas. With strong university links, we were an early adopter of the RPS Transfer of Care initiative, developing the world’s first fully integrated hospital‑to‑community pharmacy e‑referral system:
Refer‑to‑Pharmacy. We offer Home‑care and specialist pharmacy services in Dermatology, Rheumatology, Cardiology and Gastroenterology, with outpatient clinics and a flexible workforce.

As part of the role you will receive weekly protected teaching time and will participate in clinical huddles, working groups, audit and quality improvement projects. You will also join the on‑call pharmacist rota (1 in 21 frequency) and the weekend roster (1 in
7) and late night rota (1 in 21, 5–7:30 pm), with appropriate remuneration or time‑off.

Essential Qualifications
  • MPharm degree or equivalent
  • Member of the GPhC (current or upon qualification at end of training year)
Desirable Qualifications
  • Post‑graduate clinical diploma (or equivalent clinical experience)
  • UKCPA membership
  • Understanding of local and national NHS and pharmaceutical policy
  • Knowledge of medicines legislation and guidance (Medicines Act, Misuse of Drugs Act, Safe and Secure Handling of Medicines, Medicine Guidance Notes, MHRA Alerts)
  • Knowledge of clinical and risk management guidance as applied to medicines management
  • Broad clinical practice knowledge and medical condition awareness
  • General knowledge of NHS developments (primary and secondary care)
  • Understanding of clinical governance principles
  • Knowledge of external agencies concerned with patient safety (NHSLA, NPSA, NPC)
  • Experience in pharmacy services (may include foundation training year)
  • Participation in audit or research
  • Multidisciplinary working with medical and nursing staff
  • Advanced practice in one or more relevant areas
  • Experience of pharmacy services in primary or community pharmacy
  • Strong leadership and teamwork skills
