Clinical Coder

Blackpool

Full-time, 40 hours per week on site

Long-term temporary assignment

£14.43 to £17.09 per hour depending on experience

Meridian Business Support are working with an NHS Trust in Blackpool to recruit an experienced Clinical Coder to support a busy Health Records and Coding function.

This position offers consistent full-time hours, a structured environment and the opportunity to contribute to essential patient data and NHS service delivery.

About the role

As a Clinical Coder, you will play a key role in ensuring clinical information is recorded accurately and consistently to support patient outcomes and organisational reporting. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing and abstracting clinical information from patient records with a high level of accuracy
  • Assigning diagnostic and procedural codes using ICD-10 and OPCS-4 classifications in line with national standards
  • Supporting Payment by Results, audit requirements and service planning through quality coding work
  • Meeting agreed productivity and accuracy targets within a structured coding environment
  • Liaising with clinicians and healthcare professionals to clarify documentation when required
  • Contributing to data quality initiatives and participating in coding audits

This Clinical Coder role is fully onsite, offering the chance to work within a collaborative NHS team environment.

Skills and experience

To be considered for this Clinical Coder position, you will need:

  • Previous NHS experience in a similar coding or health records role
  • Strong working knowledge of ICD-10 and OPCS-4 classification systems
  • Understanding of NHS Clinical Coding Standards and data quality expectations
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to manage workload efficiently
  • Confident IT skills and experience with electronic patient record systems

It would be beneficial if you have completed the NHS Clinical Coding Standards Course or already hold, or are working towards, an ACC qualification.
