Salary: £39,959 – £48,117 per annum (pro‑rata) – Band dependent on experience.

The post holder will have a major responsibility for delivering a comprehensive training programme to the Trust’s Clinical Coding Department and external stakeholders, and will actively engage clinicians and managers in the coding process through specialty‑based workshops when required.
Key Responsibilities- Develop, plan and deliver training courses, workshops and ad‑hoc sessions to the clinical coding department; lead an in‑house training programme.
- Deliver training and induction to all new staff in clinical coding and advise the Clinical Coding Manager on ongoing training and complex development programmes for experienced coding staff.
- Audit the completeness, timeliness and accuracy of clinical coding throughout the division/Trust, using current information technology in line with national coding conventions (ICD
10 and OPCS4) and national and international rules. - Deliver a robust audit programme and report findings efficiently to the Head of Clinical Coding, the Clinical Coding Manager, the Clinical Coding Team, relevant directorate clinicians, Trust managers and the board.
- Produce formal audit reports within agreed timescales and make recommendations to improve Clinical Coding quality and accuracy.
- Monitor the progress of all coders, provide support and guidance, and highlight individual training needs.
- Ensure all training sessions adhere to national coding standards and that coders update and maintain relevant coding manuals.
- Organise, train and support staff in the use of existing coding classifications (ICD
10 and OPCS4). - Liaise with clinicians and senior managers to maintain data quality standards and keep expertise up to date.
- Support, advise and mentor trainee clinical coders, checking their work before it enters the system.
- Train staff in the appropriate use of medical terminology and extraction of information from the health record.
- Actively review the training requirements of the coding team and support progression to the National Clinical Coding Qualification.
- Provide coaching and develop effective, in‑house training materials for other trust staff to increase awareness and compliance with coding rules.
- Accredited National Clinical Coding Qualification
- Accredited Clinical Coding Auditor and Trainer status
- Experience of developing training materials
- Experience of working with clinicians and senior staff
- Ability to relate to people at all levels
- Ability to work confidently with minimal supervision
- Attendance at report‑writing courses
