Job Summary
We are seeking a proactive and dedicated School Caretaker to ensure the safety, security, and maintenance of our school premises within a secondary school. In this vital role, you will be responsible for upkeeping the physical environment, managing repairs, and supporting a clean and welcoming atmosphere for students, staff, and visitors. Your energy and attention to detail will help create a safe and functional learning environment that fosters student success and staff productivity.
Responsibilities
* Conduct regular inspections of the school buildings and grounds to identify maintenance needs or safety hazards.
* Carry out routine cleaning duties to maintain high standards of hygiene and cleanliness throughout the school premises.
* Perform minor repairs or coordinate with external contractors for more complex maintenance tasks.
* Ensure all doors, windows, lighting, heating, and ventilation systems are functioning correctly and securely.
* Manage security systems, including CCTV cameras and alarm systems, to safeguard the school environment.
* Respond promptly to emergency situations such as leaks, electrical faults, or security breaches to minimize disruption.
* Keep detailed records of maintenance activities, safety checks, and incident reports for compliance purposes.
Requirements
* Previous experience in building maintenance, facilities management, or caretaking roles is preferred.
* Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations relevant to school environments.
* Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, bending, climbing ladders, and operating basic tools.
* Excellent organizational skills with an eye for detail in inspections and record keeping.
* Good communication skills to liaise effectively with staff, contractors, and emergency services when necessary.
* Flexibility to respond to urgent issues outside of regular working hours if required.
* A proactive attitude with a commitment to maintaining a safe and welcoming school environment.
