A Transport Contract Manager working within the Integrated Transport Services Team will be responsible for planning and resourcing journeys for both Home to School (Special Education Needs and Disabilities) and Adult Day Care transport services. Core duties include:
- Planning and resourcing internal journeys using the own minibus fleet and external journeys with approved Private Hire and Taxi suppliers.
- Managing a large number of contracts, monitoring performance, reviewing efficiency and cost‑effectiveness, and ensuring compliance.
- Building strong relationships with departments within the authority, schools, and daytime support centres.
- Managing and developing a team of Passenger Assistants: recruitment, induction, work allocation, performance and development appraisals, training plans, monitoring working time, approving pay records, absence management, and low‑level disciplinary issues.
- Excellent communication, organisational and people skills.
- Experience of staff and contract management, prioritising a varied workload.
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and ability to learn new software.
- Leadership and supervisory skills, empathy for SEND communities and their families.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, communicate difficult messages, maintain professionalism under pressure.
