Health and Safety Manager– South East c £70k South ABJ
6781 PERM As Health & Safety (H&S) Manager you will join an established manufacturing organisation to take a leading role in managing Health & Safety across a complex, high-hazard manufacturing site in the south east. The site operates under Upper Tier COMAH regulations, making this a key position for an experienced Health & Safety (SHE) professional with strong knowledge of process safety, regulatory compliance and high-hazard manufacturing environments.

As HSE Manager you will work closely with the Site Manager and wider leadership team, you will provide visible, practical Health & Safety leadership while supporting continuous improvement across the site.

Key Responsibilities
* Lead and manage the site's Health & Safety (SGE, HSE, SHEQ) management systems.
* Support site leadership in maintaining compliance with Upper Tier COMAH Regulations and UK legislation.
* Provide expert Health & Safety advice to the site leadership team.
* Identify and implement improvements to reduce workplace injuries, incidents and exposure risks.
* Lead and develop the site Health & Safety team.
* Manage key site processes including induction, contractor management and emergency response drills.
* Audit critical control systems, including Permit to Work, and ensure any deficiencies are addressed.
* Lead investigations into accidents, injuries and incidents and oversee corrective actions.
* Develop and deliver Health & Safety training programmes.
* Support emergency response activities and act as an Incident Controller when required.
* Monitor and report key Health & Safety performance metrics.
* Liaise with external stakeholders and regulatory authorities when required.
* Support wider Group SHE activities, including audits and continuous improvement initiatives.
* Promote a strong, proactive and visible Health & Safety culture across the site. Qualifications and Experience
* Health & Safety leadership experience within chemical, process or another high-hazard manufacturing environment e.g.

Experience with in industries such as chemicals, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, industrial gases, polymers, coatings, energy, waste processing or other COMAH-regulated environments would be highly relevant.
* Previous experience working on an Upper Tier COMAH site.
* Strong practical knowledge of Permit to Work, COSHH, Risk Assessment, CDM and Management of Change (MOC).
* A strong understanding of process safety.
* Practical experience within the chemical sector, ideally involving hazardous chemical processing.
* Experience leading accident, incident and investigation processes.
* Experience of emergency response and training as an Incident Controller.
* Experience developing and delivering Health & Safety training.
* Good knowledge of ISO 45001 and established Health & Safety management systems.
* NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent professional qualification.
* Chartered IOSH membership, or evidence of working towards Chartered status.
* Relevant experience within a high-hazard, process or chemical manufacturing environment.
* A practical, visible and hands-on leadership style.
* Flexibility to work extended days when required to support planned plant maintenance events.
* Occasional travel to other company sites to support audits and wider Group SHE activities.
* Commitment to maintaining regulatory, company and ISO standards.
