Overview
The Registered Nurse Degree Apprentice (RNDA) role enables existing Nursing Associates and Assistant Practitioners to achieve a registered nurse qualification. The RNDA will work within a multidisciplinary team, attending university for one day per week and undertaking clinical placements across the trust while being supervised by a registered nurse.
Responsibilities- Provide safe, personal and effective care and support to patients and their families.
- Complete academic assessments and demonstrate clinical proficiencies throughout the course.
- Support the registered nurse in assessment and care planning for patients.
- Monitor the condition and health needs of patients continually and refer for reassessment when required.
- Communicate sensitive information effectively using a range of strategies related to person‑centred care, duty of candour, equality and diversity.
- Deliver high‑quality, compassionate care under the direction of a registered nurse, promoting health and independence.
- Carry out delegated clinical and care tasks to a high standard, including cannulation, venepuncture and ECGs, and accurately record nutritional and fluid intake.
- Work with an assessor to develop own clinical competence, leadership and reflective practice skills.
- Maintain privacy, dignity and safety of individuals at all times.
- Recognise changing priorities and seek appropriate advice and guidance from a registered nurse or other registered care professionals.
- Report back to the registered nurse on condition, behaviour, activity and responses of patients.
- Identify safeguarding issues relating to vulnerable children and adults and report accordingly.
- Assist in the assessment and management of risk in the care environment.
- Implement actions to meet the physical, emotional, psychological, social, cultural and spiritual needs of individuals and carers.
- Maths GCSE minimum Grade 4/C or equivalent (Functional Skills Level
2). - NMC Registered Nursing Associate or Assistant Practitioner with 12 months experience in post.
- AP applicants must have completed a Medicines Management Module.
- Ability to manage the care for a group of people and prioritise workload with minimal supervision.
- Understanding of safe and effective medicine administration and optimisation in accordance with local and national policies.
- Effective communication skills with patients, visitors and colleagues.
- Flexibility to work across various shift patterns, including nights.
- Car driver or access to a vehicle.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Basic computer and keyboard skills.
- Completion of Care certificate.
- Ability to adapt to change and to reflect on one's own work.
- Supportive attitudes towards team members.
- Teaching and supporting less qualified carers/learners.
- Demonstrated good teamwork, numeracy and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work across all organisational boundaries.
- Proven ability to keep information confidential.
- Professional conduct and commitment to NHS values.
- Proficiency in basic computer usage.
- Car driver or access to a vehicle.
