Job Overview

We are currently looking to recruit an enthusiastic Children's Nurse to join our team on a fixed term 12 month basis.

If you work at Blackpool Teaching Hospital this would be a secondment and you would have to ask your Line Manager for permission to apply.

The Children's Community Nursing Service is a small but well-established service that provides care to children and young people who have an identified nursing need or long term health need, supporting and empowering families to manage their child at home and in a variety of settings across Blackpool. The service also provides the special school nursing service to a number of special schools across the Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre area.

You will be part of a multi-professional team and will require excellent communication skills.

The post holder will be responsible for the clinical care and treatments of children and young people as part of the Children’s community nursing team.

The children and young people’s needs are paramount and nursing support to the child or young person will be delivered by the team wherever that child or young person is, working in home, and school settings for all children and young people aged 0 – 19 years.

The post holder will be flexible with their hours to provide support before school and in the evening, including contributing towards a 24/7 palliative care service. They will assist in the implementation and lead of clinical areas, ensuring that areas of practice are evidence based, effective and meet any quality guidelines e.g NICE.

Working within and adhering to the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code and standards of practice, including evidence portfolio for revalidation purposes.

The Children's Community Nursing Team are a team of experienced paediatric nurses.

Our role and responsibility is to support children age 0 to 19 years who live in Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre with acute and or complex health needs. All children referred to the team must have a named Paediatrician.

The team support children in their homes, schools or respite areas. The children’s community team cover a seven day service from 8am-9pm. We support nursing care in the community to facilitate early discharges, prevent hospital admissions or readmissions and as support children with health needs in their school.

We support education staff to meet the health needs of children by training them and developing care plans and work alongside other multi agency teams to support children to achieve best outcomes.

Referrals are made by paediatric teams locally and specialist hospitals.
