A great opportunity has arisen in our Trauma and Orthopaedic Fracture Clinic Department. Both adults and children come through the department with new injuries and reviews of patients. It is a fast flow busy environment with a variety of injuries. We have excellent clinical outcomes providing Orthopaedic services that can be broken into the following sub specialties:

  • Foot and ankle surgery
  • Hip surgery
  • Knee surgery
  • Shoulder and elbow surgery
  • Wrist and hand surgery
  • Children (paediatric) surgery

The Fracture Clinic is part of the specialty of Trauma and Orthopaedics, our Fracture Clinic is forward facing providing outpatient care to Trauma and Orthopaedic patients. Care is provided to a very diverse range of patients including trauma, major trauma, elective Orthopaedics and plastic surgery patients. Our approach is multi-disciplinary and no day is ever the same. We work closely with A&E, Theatres, inpatient wards and primary care.

The clinic works closely with the trauma nurse practitioners, to care for patients attending Trauma and Orthopaedic clinics at Royal Blackburn Hospital and Burnley General Hospital. To assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of evidenced-based nursing care. To assist with and carry out appropriate treatments. Work collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families.

Able to work under own initiative and without direct supervision within responsibilities of the role. Able to manage and prioritise own workload. As the Registered Nurse you will be required to maintain an awareness of the developments in the care and treatment of patients in order to be able to carry out duties competently and efficiently. The role of a registered staff is to deliver care to patients following surgery and those patients who have injuries requiring wound care, application of casts and mobility aids.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Staff Nurse with effective communication skills to join our friendly team. The service runs on a Monday to Friday. Flexibility to work shift patterns to meet the needs of the clinic over 5 days. Work across different sites. Manual dexterity. Physically able to perform the full range of nursing duties. The Trauma and Orthopaedic service is based across two sites, Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital and Burnley General Teaching Hospital.

  • Registered Nurse
  • Current NMC Registration
  • Evidence of continuing professional development or reflective profile
  • Experience of casting
  • Experience of Trauma and Orthopaedic nursing
  • Experience and knowledge of wound care management to include traumatic and postoperative wounds
  • Physically be able to perform the full range of nursing duties
  • Registered Nursing Qualification
  • Demonstrates effective IT skills
  • Able to adapt to change and use own initiative
  • Working in the United Kingdom for at least 6 months with current NMC registration
  • Clear and accurate written and verbal communication
  • Ability to communicate in a variety of settings with patients of varying levels of understanding
  • Flexibility - able to work flexible hours, evenings and weekends where necessary. Willingness to support other areas within the Trust when appropriate
  • Friendly, calm and approachable. Non-judgemental approach to work
  • Ability to learn new skills
  • Proof of continued professional development since registration
  • Further relevant qualifications
  • Plaster Qualification
  • Trauma & Orthopaedic Experience, You must have appropriate UK professional registration
