The Opportunity
Our client is a well-established engineering and manufacturing organisation operating within a highly regulated environment. Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint an experienced Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Advisor to join their HSE team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive HSE professional who enjoys working closely with operational teams, influencing positive behaviours and driving continuous improvement across safety, health and environmental performance.
Reporting to the HSE Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring compliance with UK legislation, supporting ISO management systems, and embedding a positive safety culture throughout the business.
The Role
As HSE Advisor, you will provide practical support and expert guidance across manufacturing, engineering and project activities. You will work collaboratively with managers, engineers and operational teams to ensure health, safety and environmental standards are maintained while supporting business objectives.
Key responsibilities include:
Providing competent advice on Health, Safety and Environmental legislation, standards and best practice.
Supporting compliance with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems.
Conducting workplace inspections, audits and behavioural safety observations.
Assisting with internal and external audits and ensuring corrective actions are completed.
Supporting risk assessments and ensuring suitable control measures are implemented.
Working alongside engineering and project teams to ensure risks are identified and reduced using ALARP principles.
Investigating accidents, incidents, near misses and environmental events, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
Monitoring HSE performance, analysing trends and producing reports to support continuous improvement.
Delivering inductions, toolbox talks and safety briefings.
Supporting contractor management and ensuring compliance with site standards.
Promoting strong housekeeping standards and continuous improvement initiatives.
Building positive relationships across all departments to encourage engagement with Health, Safety and Environmental objectives.
Supporting the development of HSE policies, procedures and business improvement initiatives.
About You
We're looking for someone who combines strong technical Health & Safety knowledge with excellent communication skills and the ability to influence people at every level of the organisation.
You will ideally have:
Essential
NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety.
Experience with in manufacturing, engineering, industrial or project-based environments.
Working knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation.
Experience supporting operational teams with risk management and safe systems of work.
Knowledge of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems.
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Ability to work independently while building effective relationships across multiple departments.
Good IT skills and experience maintaining HSE records and reports.
Desirable
NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent Level 5 qualification).
Tech IOSH, Grad IOSH or Chartered IOSH membership.
IEMA qualification or working towards membership.
Experience with in regulated sectors such as nuclear, defence, energy or construction.
Knowledge of CDM Regulations.
Experience supporting engineering design or modification projects.
Previous experience delivering training, toolbox talks and safety presentations.
