Job Summary
Temporary, short-term assignment under the direction of a Visual and Performing Arts Faculty member. Responsible for design and construction of costumes for theater productions.
Responsibilities- Coordinate with the director, lighting and sound designers, and other creative personnel such as hair stylists and makeup artists in the design of each costume.
- Design, sew, and fit costumes for theater productions.
- Education and Experience: Any combination equivalent to 2 years of experience in costume design, construction, alterations, and fitting.
- Knowledge of: Terminology, methods, practices, and techniques of costume design; appropriate backstage health, safety, and operational standards.
- Abilities: Alter and dye costumes; manage time effectively; understand and carry out oral and written directions; establish cooperative relationships with technical and non-technical staff, volunteers, faculty, students, and outside renters; cross-train in other theater technician assignments; work with frequent interruptions while maintaining strong attention to detail; follow established backstage health, safety, and operational practices; work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays depending on performance schedules.
Effort
- Ability to exert some physical effort such as walking, climbing, standing, reaching, pulling, and lifting up to 20 lbs.; bending and twisting.
- Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception for communicating with others.
- Sit or stand for extended periods of time.
Work performed indoors; may be required to travel. Rehearsal and performance hours may vary.

- Short Term Hourly Employees may work up to 25 hours per week (not to exceed 100 hours per month); total not to exceed 999 hours for a total of 100 days.
