Full
- time tenure‑track faculty in Biological Sciences, 10‑month classroom teaching assignment within the Math, Science, and Engineering Division. Current teaching load is 15 lecture hour equivalents per semester. Faculty also hold 5 office hours per week, participate in professional activities, curriculum development, and campus committees. Courses may be taught onsite, online, hybrid, evening, or Saturday.
- Teach fifteen lecture hour equivalents per semester in Biological Sciences using demonstrations, active learning strategies, and other methods.
- Maintain five office hours per week, including regularly posted hours.
- Prepare teaching materials and conduct preparation time.
- Participate in faculty/division meetings, yearly program reviews, curricular planning, student learning outcomes assessment, and college governance to advance mission.
- Engage in faculty professional development and continuing education in pedagogy (traditional & online) and student support, especially equity initiatives.
- Maintain records of attendance, census, grades, etc.
- Create an environment conducive to effective learning.
- Communicate effectively in oral and written settings.
- Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with staff and others.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of students.
- Travel between district locations as required.
- Use learning management system (LMS).
- Perform other instructional‑related duties as assigned.
- Master’s degree in any biological science OR bachelor’s in any biological science AND a master’s in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine science OR equivalent.
- Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse student backgrounds (titles 5 and 53024.1).
- Experience working with underrepresented students to reduce equity gaps.
- Experience with culturally responsive teaching practices.
- Successful teaching experience in Biology at the college or university level.
- Generalist background and teaching experience in biology including biochemistry, biophysics, or marine science.
- Teaching experience and academic background in biological science, biochemistry, biophysics, or marine science.
- Experience using an LMS.
