Overview

This position is a full‑time, ten‑month, tenure‑track teaching assignment in the Aerospace, Industrial Arts, and Applied Technologies division. The current teaching load is 15 lecture hour equivalents per semester. Faculty are also responsible for five office hours per week and are expected to devote as much time as necessary to perform the professional responsibilities of the position. Participation in professional activities, curriculum development, and campus committees is expected.

The teaching assignment may include courses offered in either onsite, online, and/or hybrid format, evening and/or weekend classes.

Responsibilities
  • Teach fifteen lecture hour equivalents per semester in Aeronautics (Airframe & Powerplant) using various teaching methods including demonstrations and active learning strategies.
  • Maintain five office hours per week, including regular posted office hours, which are accessible to students.
  • Prepare instructional materials and assessment procedures.
  • Participate in faculty/division meetings; yearly program review; curricular planning, development, and implementation; student learning outcomes: data collection and writing action plans, program learning outcomes, development, assessment, and implementation; evaluation of educational programs; and college governance to advance the college's mission and strategic goals.
  • Participate in faculty professional development and continuing education activities that are designed to maintain and develop currency in the field, pedagogy (for traditional and online teaching and learning), and student support strategies, especially as they relate to student equity initiatives.
  • Maintain records of attendance, census, grades, etc.
  • Provide an environment conducive to effective learning.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with all employees and others encountered in the course of work.
  • Demonstrate a sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
  • Travel between District locations is also expected.
  • Perform other instructional‑related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Any Bachelor's degree or higher AND two years professional experience, OR any Associate's degree AND six years of professional experience.
  • A current FAA Airframe & Powerplant license is required to teach those courses that are part of an FAA approved aircraft maintenance school.
  • College work, military training, or nationally recognized certifications equivalent to a Baccalaureate degree and two years of related occupational experience in the discipline; OR college work, military training, or nationally recognized certifications equivalent to an Associate's degree plus six years of occupational experience related to the discipline; OR eight years of experience in the aeronautics occupation, two years of which must have included assignment as a supervisor, instructor, trainer, or owner of an aircraft maintenance facility.
  • A sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in an academic subject area related to the assignment.
  • Three years full‑time, postsecondary teaching experience in Career Technical Education (preferably at a community college) OR ten years of recent experience in training programs as related to the aviation/aerospace manufacturing/maintenance industries.
  • Industry certifications related to the assignment (e.g., FAA Inspector Authorization, Avionics, Borescope certifications, GE, Lycoming, Pratt & Whitney).
  • Evidence of successful grant writing or scholarship awards.
