Position: Respiratory Care Practitioner II (CPFT/RPFT), Lancaster

Job Summary

Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates respiratory therapy care and life support for patients in adult intensive care, pediatrics, and medical-surgical units with cardiopulmonary deficiencies and abnormalities under physician supervision and prescription. Provides life support services, oxygen therapy, medical gas therapy, pharmaceutical treatments, chest physiotherapy, blood gas draws, and other patient comfort duties to maintain the flow of patient care.

    Applies philosophy and demonstrates knowledge of the Patient Bill of Rights. Treats members, coworkers, and employees with respect and dignity.
  • Maintains privacy and confidentiality of members and employees regarding medical records and disease status.
  • Greet members promptly and courteously, addressing adult members with proper title and last name.
  • Telephone Courtesy and Assistance:
    Adheres to guidelines for courtesy during telephone use, records call details, and delivers messages promptly.
  • RESPIRATORY CARE PRACTITIONER II:
    Demonstrates knowledge, application, competency, and assessment skills for all age categories.
  • Patient Care and Member Service:
    Provides direct/indirect care to neonatal, pediatric, and adult groups; participates in critical care rounds; knows admitting diagnosis and pulmonary pathophysiology; performs assessments and provides therapy.
  • Evaluates respiratory monitoring data, documents required information, and recommends appropriate care services.
  • Initiates routine orders and measures airway cuff pressures.
  • Recommends changes in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, modifies treatment techniques as needed, and reports to appropriate team members.
  • Utilizes chain-of-command for patient consultation and performs respiratory diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Obtains approval before administering non-approved medications and stores unused doses appropriately.
  • Provides ventilatory support during inter‑hospital transfers and performs disinfection/sterilization procedures.
  • Washes hands before and after patient contact, complying with isolation protocols and universal precautions.
  • Performs and evaluates blood gas analysis, ensuring quality control and proper specimen handling.
  • Performs cardiopulmonary and neonatal resuscitation (CPR/) and responds to emergencies; verifies endotracheal tube placement and positions patients for chest physiotherapy.
  • Identifies contraindications for chest physiotherapy and informs physicians.
  • Performs oral, nasal, and tracheal suctioning to maintain airway patency, collaborating with nursing on suction frequency.
  • Participates in group action‑problem solving and complies with patient safety practices.
  • Charting and Documentation:
    Provides timely, accurate records, enters data into the Respiratory Care system, and assumes responsibility for documentation.
  • Equipment and Supplies:
    Utilizes, troubleshoots, and reports equipment malfunctions; maintains inventory and ensures patient safety during equipment failure.
  • Productivity and Time Management:
    Maintains department productivity, reports inability to complete procedures, and seeks assistance when needed.
  • Job and Personal Maturity:
    Demonstrates flexibility, adapts to new ideas, functions independently with minimal direction, and communicates effectively with the team.
  • Education and Staff Development:
    Participates in training, orientation, patient education, and continuing education meetings.
  • RCP II Requirements:
    Functions at an independent level in adult critical care; assesses ventilator implementation; runs approved ventilation modalities; adjusts parameters for acid‑base changes and oxygenation; weans from mechanical ventilation per protocols; implements all respiratory modalities specific to adult critical care.
Basic Qualifications Experience
  • One (1) year of experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in adult intensive care, pediatrics, and Med/Surg.
