Position: Neonatal/Pediatric Occupational Therapist - Occupational Therapist - Full Time/Days - Req#2080682501

Job Objective

Reporting to the Director of Rehabilitation Services, the Occupational Therapist provides patient referrals under the general direction of the referring physician to support the Rehabilitation Services Department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct patient evaluations and develop treatment programs with appropriate objectives mutually agreed upon by the patient.
  • Implement treatment programs through supervision of an occupational therapy assistant or aide as needed.
  • Periodically evaluate patient response to treatment and adjust the program with physician approval.
  • Administer standard diagnostic and prognostic assessments, including neuromuscular, sensory-integrative, cognitive and psychosocial skills.
  • Provide therapy services in inpatient, outpatient, and home health settings.
  • Maintain accurate patient records, including initial evaluations, daily treatment charting, progress reports, and discharge summaries.
  • Communicate effectively with referring physicians both verbally and in written form.
  • Provide timely and accurate billing information specific to patient interventions.
  • Maintain professional appearance, good personal hygiene, and punctual attendance.
  • Participate in departmental staff meetings, performance improvement processes, and safety practices.
  • Assist with staffing rotations and patient education as required.
Non‑Essential Duties
  • Perform housekeeping tasks in the work area.
  • Participate in patient education and form development.
  • Engage in continuing education for patients, hospital employees, or outside customers.

  • Medical terminology.
  • Occupational therapy treatments for geriatric, adult, adolescent and child populations.
  • English language composition skills.
  • Antelope Valley Hospital’s hospital information system (HIS).
Skills
  • Administer occupational therapy treatments in acute care, outpatient and home health settings.
  • Assess patient progress using measurable criteria.
  • Supervise and train PT assistants and aides.
  • Train non‑medical persons to assist with patient home programs.

Education and Experience Education
  • Graduation from an American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) accredited program.
Experience
  • Preference for 1 year of acute care patient clinical experience.
Required Licensure and Certifications
  • Valid license as a Registered Occupational Therapist issued by the Board of Medical Examiners, State of California.
  • American Heart Association BLS CPR certification.

  • Adhere to AVH Leaves of Absence, Paid Time Off and Recording of Hours Worked Policies.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient, hospital and department information.
  • Follow safety rules and regulations and use PPE as required.
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers, managers and hospital staff.
  • Participate in department and hospital staff education and quality improvement initiatives.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, twisting and reaching.
  • Lifting in excess of 50 lbs and pushing/pulling up to 50 lbs.
  • Potential exposure to radiation, chemicals and biohazard requiring PPE.
