Responsibilities
  • Under the direct supervision of a registered Pharmacist and the Pharmacy Technician Supervisor performs routine and basic pharmacy procedures for the operation of an acute care pharmacy to assist the Pharmacists.
  • Assists Pharmacist in proper labeling of medications, processes medication orders and those returned to Pharmacy
  • Assists Pharmacist in preparing labels.
  • Assures adequate inventory is maintained at all times.
  • Assures and credit and billing tasks are completed in a timely and thorough manner
  • Maintains professional work habits by organizing workload, setting priorities, completing assignments in a timely manner, utilizing resources appropriately, complying with department program standards and adapts well to change
  • Performs basic pharmacy procedures such as checking in merchandise, filling physician s orders for pharmacy verification, floor stock, preparing IVs and TPNs.
  • Recognizes departures from the normal and discusses with pharmacist

  • Performs duties in accordance with relevant laws, regulations and technical standards
  • Participates in age specific educational and training programs

  • Understands and can apply all state and federal laws and regulations related to the practice of pharmacy. Pharmacy Law, MERP, Joint Commission.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and proficiency regarding special needs and behaviors of age or ethnic specific groups

  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and demonstrate the ability to collaborate with other health care professionals
Abilities
  • Ability to adhere with AVH Policies and Procedures and demonstrate knowledge and understanding of corporate compliance rules and regulations
  • Ability to adhere to safety rules and regulations and maintain the confidentiality of patient, hospital, and department information
  • Coordinate with other team members and assists manager with implementation of new applications.

Education and Experience

Education

  • High School diploma.
  • Associate of Arts or Bachelors Degree preferred.

Experience

  • Prior experience in acute care hospital OR a minimum of 2 years experience in a pharmacy preferred.

Required Licensure and/or Certifications

  • Current State of California Pharmacy Technician License
  • CPhT preferred
