Fitters at McWhirter Steel are responsible for providing “layout” on all of McWhirter Steel’s fabrications. They are also responsible for building miscellaneous fabrications from raw material till complete.
Major Duties- Fabricate miscellaneous steel fabrications like trash gates, roof access platforms, handrail etc.
- Layout structural fabrications
- Operate an overhead crane
- Operate a torch
- Perform stick welding
- Perform wire welding
- Read fabrication drawings
- Complete at least 3 months of McWhirter Steel’s Fitter’s apprenticeship or have at least 4 years of structural steel fitting experience.
- Have welding experience.
- Have in-depth knowledge of reading and interpreting fabrication drawings.
- Have in-depth knowledge of reading and interpreting erection drawings.
- Have experience fabricating miscellaneous steel such as handrail, roof access platforms, etc.
- Should be AWS certified.
