Job Objective
A Registered Nurse who exemplifies expert knowledge of the nursing process, clinical skills, effective planning, and supervisory role to ensure appropriate delivery of patient care according to established standards. Must maintain competencies and be capable with the range of patients usually seen in the unit. Serves as a role model for the staff. Has effective interpersonal and intrapersonal communication skills, works effectively with the interdisciplinary team, and actively supports AVMC mission, vision and values.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Meet all established criteria for Registered Nurse competency levels as identified by the clinical area.
- Round on unit at least twice per shift, assessing patient safety standards, quality metrics, and ensuring patient/guest relations expectations are met.
- Communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and physicians.
- Support and foster positive physician relations and open communication.
- Facilitate education, mentoring, and growth of employees.
- Provide staff with objective feedback that supports understanding and progression of Medical Center’s expectations and goals.
- Adhere to Medical Center’s policies and practices.
- Provide assistance and/or direction to other units when required due to patient care needs.
- Serve as a resource for other staff.
- Act as liaison between patients, staff, and interdepartmentally at all levels.
- Provide support for greater staff accountability and responsibility.
- Responsible for problem solving and crisis intervention relative to physicians, patients, family, and staff.
- Assume responsibility for professional and developmental growth by attending continuing education conferences and in-services.
- Balance multiple tasks.
- Delegate appropriately as deemed necessary.
- Maintain unit environment to ensure appropriate supplies are available and the area is quiet, free from safety hazards, and clean.
- Keep management team informed.
- Utilize active listening.
- Facilitate time, admission, and discharge of patients ensuring proper utilization of beds.
- Project appropriate staffing requirements and make appropriate assignments.
- Assist and/or assume patient care as necessary.
- Move and accept key changes quickly.
- Display, promote, and reinforce behavior that supports organizational changes.

- Ability to give and support the highest level of customer satisfaction at all times.
