Position: Registered Nurse - Progressive Care Unit - Full Time/Days - Req# 2080698389

Job Objective

A Registered Nurse is responsible for the nursing care of patients as established by the Nursing Practice Act of the Board of Registered Nursing of the State of California and guided by policies and procedures of the Medical Center.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Nursing Process
    • Apply nursing process in direct patient care.
    • Provide accurate assessment and documentation of physiological, psychosocial, cultural, developmental, socioeconomic, and spiritual needs of patients within appropriate time frames.
    • Update nursing care plan, provide logical sequence of action, and evaluate each shift of patient progress in relation to the plan.
    • Provide patient/family education resources and direct educational process.
    • Plan discharge beginning on admission with appropriate referrals and updates.
    • Adhere to admission and transfer criteria, all current policies and procedures, and seek clarification when needed.
    • Evaluate and document outcomes of medical, nursing, and ancillary team interventions.
    • Incorporate time management skills in accomplishing care.
  • Nursing Care Delivery Process
    • Knowledgeable regarding current nursing practices and procedures.
    • Demonstrate knowledge and use of resources and forms, understanding of Medical Center structure and administrative resources, and interpretation of rules and regulations.
    • Knowledge of legal aspects of nursing care and patient rights.
    • Act as liaison between medical staff and patient care team.
  • Technical Equipment – Operate technical equipment in area of care safely, efficiently, and accurately.
  • Environment
    • Assist in maintenance of a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment.
    • Assess safety/cleanliness of patient/unit environment and report conditions requiring change.
    • Utilize resources, equipment, and supplies efficiently with cost awareness.
    • Report hazardous conditions to appropriate department.
    • Use clean and aseptic techniques for protection of patients and personal safety, prevent contamination, and use Exposure Control Plan and Standard Precautions.
    • Demonstrate knowledge of emergency codes.
  • Leadership/Professionalism
    • Supervise care provided by others and assume responsibility for quality of care given.
    • Provide accurate and concise patient care reports.
    • Maintain professional attitude and effective working relationships with staff, patients, families, and other departments.
    • Work effectively under pressure, adhere to privacy laws (PHI) and the Code of Conduct.
    • Adhere to Antelope Valley Medical Center Compliance & Integrity Program policies and report compliance violations.
    • Complete all mandatory initial and annual training within assigned time frames.
    • Demonstrate ethical decision making, integrity, and willingness to promote a culture of safety.
  • Communication
    • Communicate effectively with patients, families, visitors, and physicians.
    • Problem solve and intervene in crises related to physicians, patients, families, and staff.
    • Follow the Chain of Command and Conflict Management process.
    • Display willingness to follow directions and accept constructive criticism.
  • Age Specific & Cultural Requirement
    • Demonstrate knowledge regarding special needs and behaviors of age specific and cultural groups.
    • Participate in age specific and cultural educational and training programs.
    • Show proficiency in required age specific and cultural competencies.
  • Non‑Essential Duties
    • Participate in unit or hospital‑based committees.
    • Other duties as assigned, within compliance with Title 22, the Joint Commission, and CMS.
