Provide safety and security services protecting customers, employees, and property by enforcing California laws and Antelope Valley Hospital policies.

Job Objective

Provide safety and security services, protecting customers, employees, and property by enforcing the laws of California and the policies of Antelope Valley Hospital under the direction of lead officers, supervisors, and the Director of Safety and Security.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Actively participate in and implement the security management program.
• Monitor hospital CCTV system, alarm systems, and communication equipment; dispatch staff as needed.
• Implement hospital access control procedures at all entrances.
• Respond to emergency calls, making initial assessments using tact, diplomacy, and judgment.
• Resolve violent and potentially violent situations.
• Intervene with individuals threatening self‑harm or others.
• Provide security and protection to patients, visitors, employees, and customers by patrolling.
• Complete necessary departmental forms, reports, and logs in a timely and detailed manner.
• Enforce laws of California and hospital policies and procedures.
• Greet all customers, offering assistance as needed.
• Maintain and wear complete and neat uniform per dress code.
• Observe and report faulty and unsafe equipment, including fire and safety items.
• Carry out safety and infection control procedures to ensure safety.
• Support and participate in performance improvement processes.

Non‑Essential Duties

• Fuel security vehicles, check fluid levels, and conduct preliminary safety inspection before use.
• Keep locker room, Sec Ops, and personal locker clean.
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge
  :
  Basic knowledge of safety & security; basic knowledge of security monitoring; knowledge of basic reporting skills.
• Skills
  :
  Good oral and written communication; good interpersonal; writing skills for detailed reports.
• Abilities
  :
  Communicate effectively; use basic computer applications; meet core competencies for hospital employees.

Education and Experience

• Education
  :
  High School Diploma or equivalent (preferred).
• Experience
  : 6 months of security‑related experience (preferred).

Required Licensure and/or Certifications

• Valid California driver’s license.
• Current California Guard Card.
• Valid First Aid and/or CPR card.
• Certified Healthcare Security Officer (CHSO) designation from IAHSS within 90 days of hire.
• Certified Advanced Healthcare Security Officer (CAHSO) designation from IAHSS within 180 days of hire.
• Nonviolent Crisis Intervention 8‑hour course from CPI within 90 days of hire and recertification annually.
• Health Stream coursework within 60 days of hire on Workplace Violence, National Incident Management System (NIMS), Emergency Management.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Work performed in hospital interior and outdoors under potentially stressful conditions.
• Stand, walk, sit, or a combination for 8 hours.
• Able to lift 50 lbs.
• Able to move vigorously as needed.
• Able to grip with both hands.
• Able to bend and reach without limitations.
