Responsibilities
- 30% Conduct foster‑adopt home assessments: home visits, interviews, extensive consultations, observe family interactions, assess overall level of functioning, recommend certification, maintain case records, enter data into SACWIS, provide assistance with kinship assessments. Seek and maintain Ohio Assessor qualifications.
- 30% Conduct placement searches and coordinate placements with agency foster homes, group homes, and residential centers; communicate regularly with primary caseworker and supervisor about placement coordination.
- 30% Plan and implement foster parent recruitment activities: identify needs, respond to inquiries, conduct home visits; increase public awareness through recruitment materials, advertisements, flyers, inquiry packets, and public presentations. Assist in planning/implementation of foster parent orientation and ongoing training, develop group orientation classes, coordinate annual training, and develop individualized training for foster parents.
- 10% Participate in ongoing training, supervisory/staff meetings, staff consultations, and management support tasks; participate in weekend and night coverage on a rotating basis; assist with overflow case assignments by assessing complaint validity, conducting interviews, completing assessments in SACWIS, gathering evidence, and working with community partners. Provide crisis interventions, reduce risks to children by engaging families and community partners, and refer for service linkage.
Receive a temporary 5% increase when handling multiple high‑risk cases; return to base rate when fewer assignments. Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional duties: participate in on‑call coverage, assist with overflow child welfare cases involving assessments and investigations, crisis intervention, and service linkage to ensure child safety and stability.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in human services‑related studies, or bachelor’s degree in any field with at least two years of employment in a human services occupation, or associate’s degree in human services‑related studies, or five years of employment in a human service‑related occupation. For options 2, 3, or 4, must obtain a job‑related bachelor’s degree not later than five years after beginning employment.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Complete at least 90 hours of in‑service training during the first year (courses in recognizing and preventing child abuse and neglect, assessing risks, interviewing, investigating, intervening, providing services to children and families, etc.). After the first year, complete 36 hours of training annually.
The position involves safety responsibilities for children or adults, often determining imminent risk of harm. Potential exposure to physical, mental, or sexual abuse; exposure to environmental factors (cold, heat, noise, fumes, vibration, dirt); risk of injury; exposure to contagious diseases.
