Circulation Assistant

Under the supervision of the Director and the Branch Manager the position works at the public service desk assisting users with basic Library functions.

• Assists customers by issuing library cards, checking materials in & out, placing holds, & locating materials using an automated library system.
• Assists patrons on-site or by telephone with basic informational & directional requests.
• Assists customers in the use of library catalogs, computers, copiers, printers, & other equipment throughout the library.
• Handles fines, fees, & payments.
• Interprets & communicates general library policies & procedures to patrons.
• Operates equipment such as telephones, computers, copiers, faxes, etc.
• Searches for needed materials & shelves accurately according to prescribed location. Performs opening & closing procedures.
• Performs other associated duties as required or assigned.

• High School graduate, plus two years of relevant work experience.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Ability to perform duties of job.
• Familiarity with general PC operations in Windows environment.
• Excellent reading & verbal ability.
• Knowledge of library collections & services or willingness to learn.
• Aptitude for detailed work.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Good communication skills with both children & adults.

This position requires night & weekend work on a rotating basis.
