We are looking for a Consultant Gastroenterology physician to provide specialist care and teaching across our sites.
Main duties of the job- Provide specialist gastroenterology clinical services at Royal Lancaster Infirmary and other sites, including cross‑Bay GI bleed cover and endoscopy sessions/clinics.
- Participate in a 7‑day bleeding service with a 1‑in‑8 GI bleed rota, including weekend 24/7 bleed service on call.
- Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate education in partnership with Lancaster Medical School and Health Education England North West.
- Support a team of eight consultants, nurse consultants, advanced nurse practitioners and clinical nurse specialists, fostering a supportive culture.
- Develop and expand subspecialty interests, such as bowel cancer screening, IBD, hepatology and ERCP/therapeutic endoscopy.
- Full registration with the General Medical Council.
- Entry on the Specialist Register or receipt of CCT within six months of interview (Gastroenterology and General Medicine).
- Clinical training and experience equivalent to UK CCT in Gastroenterology and General (Internal) Medicine.
- JAG accreditation for upper and lower diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy.
- Higher degree (MD, PhD) or specialist interest that complements colleagues.
- Membership of appropriate professional society.
- Broad exposure to gastrointestinal diseases and their management.
- Comprehensive patient management, ability to train and supervise junior medical staff and medical students.
- Experience of multidisciplinary team work and attendance at educational or teaching courses.
- Awareness of the managerial role of a consultant in the NHS and regular attendance and participation at audit meetings.
- Strong multidisciplinary team working skills.
