We are seeking to appoint a passionate Pastoral Support Assistant to work with our Head of Year 7 & Primary Transition from September 2026. The successful candidate will provide support to pupils, work closely with Year 7 form tutors as well as parents/carers, contribute to the general ethos of pastoral care at LRGS and assist with the primary outreach programmes and primary transition arrangements.

This role is 30 hours per week, term time plus 1 day (Open Day held on a Saturday in June). Core hours will be between 8.30 am and 3.30 pm, with additional attendance required at transition afternoons and after‑school parent information sessions. The salary is based on Support Staff Grade 5, currently £25,989‑£28,142 FTE (pay award pending). Actual salary based on hours and term‑time contract is £17,910‑£19,928 per annum.

Essential Qualifications and Experience
  • Qualification or training relating to pastoral care or youth work
  • Experience of working in a school environment
  • Knowledge of learning support strategies and provision
  • Knowledge of emotionally based school avoidance strategies
  • Excellent skills in communicating with young people, including those in distress
Desirable Experience
  • Experience in recording and acting on concerns and safeguarding disclosures
  • Experience in supporting children to transition through education, preferably from primary to secondary school
