Job overview12 month Fixed Term Post to cover upcoming maternity leave. Working within the Oncology speciality team to manage the patient pathway taking into consideration all aspects of that pathway to include NHS national performance targets, tracking and pursuing all results, ensuring timely appointments and managing the patient pathway.
The post holder will work with other Patient Navigators to ensure timely care and optimal waiting list management for all patients in relevant specialities, supervise secretaries and clerical officers, and maintain confidentiality.
Oversee allocation and distribution of work, supervise and monitor new staff, exercise initiative, and adhere to Standard Operating Procedure.
Main duties of the jobProvide an administrative service for the specialties, Consultants and their Multi-Disciplinary Teams when necessary.
Use independent judgement to deal with enquiries/problems from patients and others on their behalf.
Arrange meetings, type agendas, and take accurate minutes.
Attend Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings where necessary.
Liaise with all staff concerned with patient services, e.g. Medical, Nursing staff, Medical Records Department, X-ray Department, Patient Contact Centre and Management.
Participate in the development or review of departmental policies and procedures.
Co‑operate fully in the introduction of new technology and methods of working as appropriate to the role.
Continuously self‑develop, update best ways of working and improve knowledge and competence.
Work as a team member and as a leader when required, adhere to strict deadlines, assist with investigations and compile responses to complaints within optimum deadlines.
Complete all mandatory training required by the Trust.
Working for our organisationWe operate from three main hospitals – Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal – as well as community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital, GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
Each hospital provides a range of services, from Emergency Departments and critical care to diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery.

Person specification Education and Qualifications- NVQ3 in Business Administration or equivalent, or relevant experience
- ECDL or recognised typing qualification, or relevant experience
- GCSE Maths and English or equivalent
- Experience of undertaking secretarial duties: diary management, typing correspondence, answering telephone queries, audio typing.
- Experience of using MS Office systems, overseeing a small team of staff, and using medical terminology.
- Knowledge of Data Protection issues and requirement for confidentiality.
- Evidence of good, clear communication skills, and ability to use tact and diplomacy when speaking to patients.
- Proficiency in English language and a high level of motivation.
