We are recruiting enthusiastic, highly motivated community midwives/birth centre midwives to join our dynamic, dedicated, forward thinking professional team which serves a wide geographical area with rural and urban communities.
ResponsibilitiesThe role involves working within the community as an autonomous practitioner within a multi‑disciplinary team. You will provide high‑quality, women‑centred maternity care, effective leadership, optimise teaching opportunities and support staff across all grades. You will give appropriate education to women and families and provide necessary care, advice and supervision throughout the pregnancy continuum, ensuring appropriate referral to other agencies and specialist midwifery teams where required.
Mainduties of the job
- Provide home birth and birth centre births, maintaining high clinical standards.
- Maintain good relationships with other team members to ensure women receive safe care.
- Lead and optimise teaching opportunities for staff.
- Support staff in all grades, planning and directing activities to provide optimal care.
We operate from three main hospitals—Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal—as well as community health premises.

Person Specification Education and qualifications- Registered Midwife
- Evidence of ongoing professional development
- Current driving licence
- 1st level degree in relevant field
- Evidence of clinical competence to work autonomously within a multi‑disciplinary team.
- Ability to make appropriate clinical decisions and prioritise care needs.
- Committed to CPD for self and others.
- Knowledge of research methodology.
- Understanding of the role of Research and Development.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and will require a Disclosure and Barring Service check.
Salary: £39,959 to £48,117 a year, pro rata.
