Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and dynamic Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to join our Acute Speech and Language Therapy Team. This is a generalist role providing assessment and management of adult patients with communication and swallowing difficulties across the acute hospital setting.
You will work as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team, delivering high‑quality care to patients.
Main duties- Undertake specialist assessment, diagnosis, and management of dysphagia and communication disorders in acute patients.
- Independently manage a caseload of complex patients, prioritising effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
- Deliver evidence‑based interventions to support safe swallowing and communication.
- Work collaboratively with medical, nursing, dietetic, and allied health professionals.
- Provide advice, education, and support to patients, families, and carers.
- Contribute to service development, audit, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Speech and Language Therapy approved by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).
- Registered with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Ongoing membership with the RCSLT.
- Membership of specialist interest groups.
- Leadership training or qualification.
- Experience of working with adults with a wide range of communication and swallowing disorders.
- Experience of working in a wide range of settings including acute hospitals, community hospitals, clinics and patients’ homes.
- Three years of experience working as an SLT.
- Five years of experience as a Band 5 SLT.
- Dysphagia training and competencies achieved.
- Highly developed auditory and perceptual skills to communicate condition‑related information to clients and relatives.
- Highly developed knowledge of a broad range of specialist assessments as required.
- Accountability for own professional actions, working within codes of practice, professional guidelines and policies.
