Specialist Occupational Therapist

Grade: NHS AfC Band 6 – Permanent. 7‑day rota. Full time 37.5 hours per week.

Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Lancaster.

Salary: £39,959 – £48,117 per annum.

Job Overview

Join the Occupational Therapy Team at Royal Lancaster Infirmary as a Specialist Occupational Therapist. The role covers a specialist caseload across the Integrated Community Stroke team, Acute Frailty & Extended Stay wards, medical, surgical, orthopaedics and Emergency Department, with opportunities to work with the Discharge to Assess service. The position includes ward‑based work and some community visits.

Main Duties
  • Manage a specialist caseload on a rotating clinical area, supporting fellow occupational therapists and the wider therapy team.
  • Provide assessment, treatment, and goal planning for patients with varied physical conditions.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary team and complex discharge team.
  • Supervise and support occupational therapy team members, students and therapy assistants.
  • Engage in service development and contribute to in‑service training and CPD.
Requirements
  • Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy approved by the Royal College of Occupational Therapists.
  • Registration with HCPC as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Ability to travel to community venues for assessments.
Person Specification
  • HCPC registered Occupational Therapist.
  • Post‑registration experience in acute inpatient and rehabilitation settings.
  • Experience with patient flow, discharge pathways, research or audit.
  • Experience supervising OT Band 5 staff and/or students.
  • Good assessment, observation, evaluation and reporting skills.
  • Strong teamwork, communication and organisational abilities.
  • Knowledge of risk assessment and management.
  • Clinical experience at OT Band 5 in acute and community settings.
