Respiratory Therapist – Part Time
Part‑time position working AM hours, 20 hours per week at Sage West Health Care.
DescriptionNew graduates are encouraged to apply. The Respiratory Therapist provides respiratory/cardiopulmonary care services in accordance with physician orders and department policies.
Essential Functions- Perform all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
- Interact professionally with patients and families; treat patients and their families with respect and dignity.
- Identify and address psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and families.
- Effectively and appropriately communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co‑workers, using positive language and constructive problem‑solving techniques that foster positive outcomes.
- Appropriately assess all patients related to the care requested and provided, including neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric, and the general patient population.
- Evaluate respiratory care policies and procedures based on patient outcomes, current research, and best practices.
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of all departmental forms, flow charts, logbooks, and their proper usage.
- Formulate a teaching plan based on identified learning needs of patients and evaluate effectiveness of learning, including family when appropriate.
- Perform respiratory therapy diagnostic procedures and therapy treatments per plan of care.
- Maintain accurate and continued documentation for all assessments, treatments, and evaluations performed, ensuring documentation meets current standards and policies.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the differences in techniques and treatment modalities for patients of varying ages.
- Manage and operate equipment safely and correctly; inspect and test respiratory therapy equipment to ensure safe and efficient functioning.
- Follow the six medication rights and reduce the potential for medication errors.
- Respond to codes and calls for emergency assistance; assess patient condition and deliver appropriate treatment.
- Monitor, receive, stock, and distribute respiratory care supplies and medical gas cylinders.
- Disassemble, clean and sterilize equipment and perform preventive maintenance and calibration of machines.
- Initiate, maintain, and discontinue continuous mechanical ventilation.
- Apply principles of sterile techniques and infection control procedures.
- Consult other departments as appropriate to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities.
- Assist in orientation and training of new staff/students as necessary.
- Keep current with principles and practices, regulations, and standards that apply to healthcare.
- Perform other reasonably related job duties as assigned or requested, within scope of practice.
- Demonstrate the values of teamwork consistently.
- Prioritize the patient's clinical experience and maintain high awareness of patient satisfaction.
- Show meticulous attention to detail with the ability to multi‑task and demonstrate proficient time management skills.
- Act as a self‑starter, completing duties without reminders.
- Respond to and cope with emergency situations professionally and calmly.
- Remain focused, patient, and calm under pressure, taking appropriate action.
- Be flexible, responding to changes in the work schedule, and work as needed for departmental coverage.
- Have basic computer knowledge and become proficient in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems.
- Possess knowledge of computer operations and proficiency in the use of word processing, email, EMR, and other required software.
- Require critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Exhibit excellent written, verbal and communication skills.
- Be sufficiently proficient in spoken, written, and reading English necessary to perform essential functions, especially those impacting patient or employee safety or security. Additional languages preferred.
- Associate of Science Degree (required)
- Bachelor of Science Degree (preferred)
- Current Wyoming Respiratory Therapy license
- Credentialed by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) as a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) and/or a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire or transfer
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 90 days of hire or transfer
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within 90 days of hire or transfer
